While my official title on Hulu's Living for the Dead was Camera Operator, I was principally tasked with bringing my expertise in atmospheric, spooky lighting to the production. My main objective was to introduce deep dimensionality and a stylized, moody visual language to the series. This project presented a unique logistical challenge because it featured an ensemble of five cast members. Covering a room full of people dynamically while maintaining a carefully crafted, dark aesthetic required a highly creative approach to blocking and camera movement. To achieve this, we heavily employed the DJI Ronin 4D. This specialized camera system allowed us to introduce smooth, sweeping, jib-like movements into confined locations, elevating the overall production value and keeping the visual narrative fluid and engaging. Despite the complexities of lighting and covering a large cast on location, our efforts resulted in major industry recognition. I am incredibly proud that our highly dedicated, three-person camera team earned an Emmy Nomination for Cinematography in 2024.
